Enough of this blowing and murmuring

Enough of this blowing and murmuring
Enough of this blowing and murmurin

,

O trembling serpent… O criminal one.

You slipped away from your kin without shame,
Crawling into my inspired chamber…

Buttons undone before a hungry man,
Who longs to bite into the star above.

And your spilled hair, its strands—
Neglected, knowing nothing of gathering…

In your nightgown, O my she-wolf?
Lost, like a thought obscure and dim…

Your breast wrapped in its feathers,
Like a rabbit drawn to my mouth.

Like a white rabbit in its leap—
God, how I tried to sketch it!

This thing that bounds into my bed,
Is there anything left unbroken by it?

I believed in pleasures unsheathed,
Boiling from your fiery eyes…

How many desires a woman holds,
Her hungry eyes translate them all…

Fragrance of appetite—I am a genie,
Beware lest you shatter my vessel…

What are you? What are your breasts? If they laugh,
My passions, my bridled lust…

The flood knows not, in its surge,
What God has permitted… and what He forbade…
Enough of this blowing and murmuring
