125. Pulse

There is no perspective to be gained
She tells you this, hand on your cheek
Her face hard and full of teeth
There is no eye except the inward turned
You cannot determine your worth
Because worth implies a scale
And differences fade like honey in blood
Like bubbles into air they vanish
Your heart, she says, is yours to devour
And I know you hunger
And I know the world does, too
But when you cut your pulse for them
Remember who it is that does the spilling
