23 & Me

Never did I think
I would cry over the drink
About getting older
23 seemed like a big number
When I was 8, I didn't want to get bigger
Cause I still feel alone in a crowd
I want to make them proud
But the voices in my head are too loud
For my weeping heart to hear
The success that struggles to cheer
But then a failure will then appear
To crush what I had gained
I never thought I'd cry in vain
For my growing up pain
A void I can't seem to fill
Knowing I'm loved doesn't tranquil
My nerves that rush and kill
The happiness I feel inside
So I cry unable to hold the tide
Of emotions of 'I tried'
The words my tears choked back
I've lived this long, I don't want a plaque
Just acknowledge what I have to unpack
Cause it is hard to bear
So I cry in sorrow, I cry in despair
My life is just beginning but to me it's over
On my 23rd
