57. Balance

Close together, hair entangled
I ask you with eyes wide open
Was life always this way?
So without remorse, so twice-tongued?
Full of bees and honey,
Flowers that would kill to be looked at?
Was I blind before, or simply sheltered
Under you? Have I been brought elsewhere
Into a story where safety is luxury?
I imagine your hand on my cheek
I imagine you chuckling, smiling
I imagine seeing the softness of your palms
And you will say, with confidence I wish would last forever
Sharpness always drives us
Fear, nervousness, excitement
But neither I, nor your safety
Your heartbeat nor your balance
Will ever leave your side
