A Conversation with the Wind (For the Cricketer I Love)

A Conversation with the Wind (For the Cricketer I Love)
Today…
I went back
to that cricket ground
where you once stood,
bat in hand,
while the whole world cheered your name.

I didn’t try to see you—
I just stood there quietly,
closed my eyes…
and breathed in the wind
you must have breathed too.

“Tell me,” I asked the wind,
my voice soft but breaking,
“what did it feel like…
to touch him?
That cricketer…
the one the world is crazy about?”

The wind circled around me slowly and said—
“It felt like touching a dream,
like the stadium lights turned into stars,
like every cheer turned into music…
like I held someone
the world calls its hero.”

My lips curved into a faint smile…
but my eyes filled up.

“And me?” I whispered,
“what am I… to him?”

The wind stilled.
It brushed my face—
but said nothing.

And that silence…
felt louder than the crowd that screams for you.

I looked around—
the same ground,
now filled with people
who would do anything
just to get one glance from you.

Girls hoping you’d notice them,
fans shouting your name,
hands raised, hearts racing…

And me—
standing in the last corner,
quietly in love
with a cricketer
who will never even know I exist.

“I don’t want his autograph,”
I told the wind, my voice trembling,
“not his attention,
not even a moment of his time…”

The wind whispered—
“Then what do you want?”

I closed my eyes,
a tear slipping down softly…

“Just this…
this feeling of loving him,
without ever reaching him…
without ever being seen.”

The wind held me gently and said—
“Then your love
is the most unseen innings ever played—
no applause,
no scoreboard…
yet endless.”

I smiled through my tears,
because while the world screams his name…

I stand in silence,
loving a cricketer
through nothing…
but the wind.
