The forest floor is covered now in a colorful quilt of fallen leaves.
The trees, now bare of leaves, stand like skeletons dressed in black, like the widow as she grerves.
The heat of summer's gone for now replaced by chilly air.
Oh there will still be days of pleasant warmth but this time of year they're rare.
Oak leaves still clinging to their branches as if they're afraid to fall down to the ground.
With each breeze, the dry leaves tremble in their fear and make a rustling sound.
Besides the oak leaves rustling the woods are almost deathly still.
The stillness is only broken now and then bý sound of a squirrel up on the hill
The path I'm on was free of leaves just a month ago or so
Today the trail's so thick with leaves it's hard to see just where the trail goes
I walk, enjoying the quiet woods, when I hear twig snap somewhere to my right.
I stop and stand there still and quiet, and soon two deer step into sight .
Something startles the deer and in an instant, tails up, the deer begin to run
The deer now gone i head back to the car walking back down the same the trail on which I'd come
Before I go i take one last look at the leaf covered forest floor, and think, I'd stay longer if I could.
For although the forest is beautiful all through out the year. There's a special haunting beauty in a late November woods.
