A life with Dementia
Though my mind does stray,
Through the fractured scenes of yesterday.
Familiar faces,
Their names escape,
In memory's haze,
they twist and shape.
The past and present intertwine,
A tangled web within my mind.
I grasp at moments, slipping fast,
A fleeting touch, a fading past.
Confusion wraps its cloak around,
In rooms familiar, I'm unbound.
Lost in places once I knew,
Each step I take, a world anew.
Voices murmur, distant, near,
Their words like whispers, hard to hear.
A name, a face, a time, a place,
All blur together, and lose their trace.
Loved ones look with sorrowed eyes,
I see their pain, their masked disguise.
They guide me gently, hold my hand,
As I drift through this shifting land.
Frustration's fire burns within,
For who I was and could have been.
A mind that once was sharp and clear,
Now fades away, replaced by fear.
Yet in the fog, some sparks remain,
Of love and joy, of peace and pain.
Moments of clarity may break through,
With A glimpse of the life I once knew.
So walk with me through twilight's glow,
With patience, kindness, soft and slow.
For though my mind may lose its way,
In heart and soul, I’ll always stay.
