A Lover's tale

Then said he to his love;
For thee alone I shall die,
This I swear to Jove,
I shall give thee a true love's sigh.
Then replied her to him,
O I would that that were true:
But I fear thy love is slim!
And what thou think'st I have no clue,
Then he held her tight and kissed,
Ignoring the dangers of the night;
Beneath their feet a serpent hissed,
And above them flew a kite!
