A New Dawn

Sitting alone on the eve of a new dawn,
Asking where can light be found in this gloom.
The loss that frequently weighs down the heart,
Reminiscing on the past, yet no regrets just lessons.
Learned that quiet isn't always peace.
Learned how to hope even in hurt.
Learned how to grow even in grief.
Learned not to use the word "I quit".
Using the same knife that stabbed us to cut tiles.
Striving to live a life of purpose,
Ensuring the future is a better version of the past.
Comparing myself with age-mates more successful,
Forgetting I also had long-dead age-mates.
Reminding me life is a gift I should be grateful for.
Not where I envisioned being,
Not also were I used to be.
The more I think, the more I'll thank him,
The one above who's been my all in all.
Without him am as good as dead.
As I free the new dawn balloons,
Know there is always light,
If only we are brave enough to be it.
Happy Birthday To Me!
