I just wanted a painting
Done by the artist I only admired from a far
Outside looking in for over a year
Amazed by her talent and always wanting more
I desperately want a painting
Then we started talking
As if we knew each other forever
A connection that couldn't be described
I started to understand but
But I thought I just wanted a painting
A photo to remind me of when we 1st meet
Creating a memory I know I'd never forget
When our eyes meet, I felt our souls dance
yet I just wanted a painting
I didn't want see
I didn't want to feel
I didn't want to be vulnerable
I just wanted a painting
What I found was real
Something I didn't know I needed
And now an artist I dont want to live without
Still, I just wanted a painting
Now, my eyes are opened wide
My life is changing
my soul is awakened and I'm falling
All because I just wanted a painting.
The start is always the best
Mixed emotions, Scared to jump
Knowing what I might be risking
Yet so certain I can trust her
We risk all knowing this love is real.
Yes! Now I have a painting
Not to own, but to hold
To admire and to appreciate
On loan from the beauty who created it
I love this perfect painting
I keep it like a trophy
Of two broken souls connecting as one
Both forever changed, different
Intoxicated with the other
I start to study the painting
Am I looking to close, holding to tight?
She's right, it's just in my head
I have to learn to trust her
I can't destroy this, us, her.
Is that the same painting?
Wait, what don't I know?
I want to see what's behind the curtain
Still so scared that I already know but terrified to admit
Her performance is exhausting her.
I just wanted this painting
And with it came an artist
A beautiful painter,
as well as an escape artist
An amazing poet
But also an illusionist
Just like that painting
She was herself a piece of art
What do you see when you're with her?
Different and unique created just for you
Great art, will always be loved for many different reasons.
A beautiful painting, perhaps a masterpiece
Either way she was the artist
Who gave peices of herself
To whomever would selfishly take.
Not realizing she was destroying
The pureness of her destiny.
Now I've lost a painting
As well as the artist, my time was up
The illusionist flashed, perhaps an intentional escape
The magic lost, she slipped away
So until the next time that
I just want a painting, one that speaks to my soul.
I will heal and grow.
I will remember the good but not the bad.
And smile because I held my soulmate, if only for a moment.
She will always be an artist who I will admire
...if only now, from a far.
