She was so young and had to be much older all the time.
Her mom and dad, tried raising her the best they can, which wasn't fine.
Her mom was mentally ill, and her dad was an alcoholic,
Both were tremendously sick.
I remember when they had to go to the church to get food to eat.
Her little tummy, and cold feet.
I remember little Katie standing at my door.
I took.her in for awhile and her parents went to the church to get some food, I hugged her, these were signs not to be ignored.
She sat at my table with tears welling down her face.
My daughters hugged her, oh what an embrace.
Every chance she had, she wanted to be at my place.
Her dad was thrown out of there apartment when he drank to much beer.
Katie's mom, was not on meds, and had episodes every day, not good for katie to hear.
When katie was 12 years old, the courts had taken her away.
She was placed in a foster home to stay.
7 years in foster care, was to much for her to bare.
Katie's mom went into a depression and starved herself for several months and ended up in the emergency care.
The doctors said that katie's mom almost died.
Back and forth every day at the hospital, katie's dad would go, and everyday he cried.
The story was so sad, doctors say her mom had a breakdown which led to a stroke.
Their hearts had been broken.
Now it's been about 5 years since katie's mom's tragic night.
Every day is a battle, every day is a fight.
Today katie is 20 years old, she is in college going to become a police officer to help out people in need.
She doesn't want other kids to suffer like she did, or find them about to bleed.
Her mom is getting better day by day, but her brain will never be the same.
Her dad, still cries every now and then about the past, his life of shame.
The three of them started having family time.
Katie, feels a little responsible, for not helping her mom when she was young.
The words of " I am sorry" she sung.
Things will never be perfect, but at least they can make new memories, again.
Today, their hearts can mend.
