A Whiskey Prayer

The first time that I met you
I had a Whiskey in my hand
I stopped to watch you dancin'
To the country music band.
You were such a lovely beauty
Dancing there all alone
The whiskey gave me courage
To approach you on my own.
Then we danced the night away
Under the midnight sky
I couldn't keep my eyes off you
No matter how I'd try.
When the dance was over
I didn't want to let you go
I didn't want to stop the dancin'
But the bartender told me no.
So we exchanged our numbers
So I could see you once again
I wanted to keep you near me
So I could fight off other men.
Cuz there's something about you darlin'
That I just can't describe
But it made me want to love you
And to take you as my bride.
Now I started drinking whiskey
When I became a man
I never thought it'd hurt us
I just didn't understand.
So I just kept drinking whiskey
Cuz it helped me with my fears
But you didn't like the whiskey
Cuz it often brought you tears.
Then one day I turned around
To find that you weren't there
So I grabbed my bottle of whiskey
And offered up a drunken prayer.
A prayer that you would come back
But you know you never did
So again I picked up the whiskey
And in it's bottle is where I hid.
The more I drank the whiskey
The more I fell apart
Cuz the whiskey couldn't heal
A cowboy's Broken Heart.
The whiskey numbs my pain
You know that much is true
But I don't love the whiskey
Cuz I'm still in love with you.
