Across The Abyss

Little Tommy Baker
Lived near a Quaker
Who had no bike nor car
Only a pony and cart to take him far
Had no tracter for the field
Just a mare to harvest its yield...
Tommy dressed in linen fine
At supper drank the finest wine
Though the Quaker wore clothes of flack
At the table he did not lack...
(a score of years pass)
Mr Tommy Baker
Envied that Quaker
For though riches belong to him
To get into Heaven chances were slim
He did not take part of any day
To kneel down to God an' pray...
(many years pass, eventually Death visits us all)
Mr Tommy Baker
Across the abyss saw the Quaker
Quaker I beg of you
Of water, on my tongue, a drop or two
As soon as the droplets of water
Left the Quakers hand
They vanished upon
The Most Highs command...
Ask yourself this
When next a Quaker you meet
Whose life is fruitful
Whose life is truly sweet...
