The addict scrapes sympathy from his skin,
culls compassion by every act of cruelty cast against his cowering craving child-self,
selfish sin to offset the suffering,
night-dreamed knives to numb where narcotics can't,
abuse against what's already aching,
planned pain the easier poison
to process.
