Afterthought

I was an afterthought,
A footnote in their minds.
Forgotten, overlooked,
Left behind.
They moved on without me,
Never asking for my input.
I’d try to speak up,
But my words were never worth it.
I walked in their shadows,
Watching them take the lead.
I was their last choice,
Their forgotten seed.
I tried to catch up,
To earn their attention.
But they were too far ahead,
Too entrenched in their convention.
So I wandered alone,
An afterthought once more.
