Amnesia

Remember them
Unfamiliar faces clouded over by a sense of nostalgia
Repetitive uses of my name frames an orchestra of confusion
Pictures of me and unknown individuals invade my personal space
Many strangers beg me to believe they are my family
A subtle voice echos in the back of my head
Blurry images align themselves
I feel myself remembering
Only to fall short before I can grasp the lost memories
Tears well up from the people in front of me
Hoarse voices try to tell me stories of a life I have no recollection of
However, powerful emotions are about to burst forth
Memories of the kin before my eyes are becoming clearer
The woman crying on my left arm is my only daughter
The two men talking to the doctor are my sons
Another woman is watching over three kids
She is my daughter-in-law
Three kids are talking amongst themselves on the floor
They are my grandchildren
I remember
Words begin to form from my lips
Rasps groans escape my dry mouth
"I remember..."
Masks apply to each person I see
The feeling of nostalgia flees
Remembrance of a family I once knew crumbles
I look to a strange girl sobbing on my arm
Three words leave my mouth
"Who are you?"
Cries fill my ears as she breaks down
