Anna loved flame
and death whispered a melody
so Anna struck a match
and set it all ablaze.
Tongues of orange, blue and white
licked at her toes,
the sweet acid smell of smoke,
a crackling in her ears.
Anna walked out and away
from her creation.
She turned around and looked
at it from an angle
like an artist admiring her work.
As the flames danced in her eyes
she began to smile
and wave good-bye to the wounded child
that she had left behind.
