Are We Really Independent?
With the spate of insecurity
That seems to have tied, with us, the nuptial knot,
With the reign of imported obscenity.
I think not
How can we say we are an independent nation
When ninety percent of what is done is influenced by surrounding governments
That to me, is dependence in reverberation
With all its negative condiments
"No man is an island"
That's the excuse most of you all would give
For the nations wielding on Nigeria, the upperhand
But I stand to raise the branch of olive
No man is an island you say
But you don't see the U.S.A, China, Russia or United Kingdom
Living this way
No, they live in stardom
They dominate
But look at us, victims of different evils
Ruled by things that frustrate
Coming down on us like anvils
For this nation, I weep
For she is still come into true independence
She is yet asleep
In the face of the raging pestilence
Africa's giant
Awaken from your sleep
You are pregnant
Wake up, Cos your children's assassins around you, creep
Wake up, don't let them take away your unborn offsprings
And your womb along with it
Fight for your pregnancy of beautiful springs
They want to keep you dependent, forbid it.
