Astray

Bred for the pews,
I was raised to kneel,
Not just to God,
But his mother too.
Counting the beads,
We prayed to a virgin,
In the house of the Lord,
Jezebel was lurking.
Years fell away,
As I lost my faith,
The devil was my shadow,
Leading me astray.
I fell into his clutches,
I loved his hands of stone,
He handed me a flower,
And promised me a throne.
I knew God was there,
But couldn't save his child,
The betrayal had blinded him,
As I became exiled.
Nailed to a cross,
Built from deception,
The demons grinned and pointed,
I mistook my perception.
I begged for Father's forgiveness,
I wept and I prayed,
Without hesitation,
He accepted and stayed.
He taught me a lesson,
Of commitment and commandment,
The evil wanted to awaken,
As my sins cracked like pavement.
I know he's still there,
Waiting for his moment,
To see me abandoned,
And begging for his torment.
