August lingers in heavy dark skies,
sunlight’s sharp arrows dimmed, half-disguised,
wind lifts fallen leaves where the cold wind lies.
The sky is not fair—it holds no grace,
lightning rumbles, thunder paces its place,
tides swing back and forth, time’s own restless race.
At last the long-held weight breaks and falls—
August weeps, and the waiting cloud walls
