Awakened Beauty

My short story has become a never ending journey. It stretches to the ends of time. The illusions of reality. So much left to learn, yet nothing more to gain. At least that's what I say.
I've learned that adapting will not only make you stronger, but guide you throughout your adventures. Walking alone doesn't mean you're lonely. It means you're not afraid to lead in a world that follows.
We need hope. We're as damaged as the unknown. Always thrown to the tides so far away from home.
Awakened we sleep into the night. Dreamlike state of mind. Delusions of grandeur proportions are not much more than welcomed goodbyes.
The past has helped me overcome the things I've seen and what I've done.
Presently I'm short of breath, a heavy chest, a cloudy head.
I wish that I could know the truth. Instead of always being used.
It's hard to find the words to say, when I don't know what's wrong with me.
It's nice to know that people care, we're not alone, just unaware.
It's hard to see through different eyes, we're all the same, just different lives.
The future holds what I don't know. I'm scared to death of the unknown.
Usually I have a hold on everything I can't control. But lately it's been hard to cope, with everything I've ever known.
The greatest gift in life to gain, is never having fear of shame.
When I have nothing left to gain, I find redemption in the flames.
Death is such a warm embrace, a shadow that reflects the pain.
I'm not afraid at all of life, I fear the things I can't describe.
I know I'm not afraid to die, cause you can't kill what's dead inside.
I'm scared to think just who I was, when I was weak, when I was young. When all I had in life was drugs, the days I spent alone and numb.
Standing still on solid ground, not broken down but stronger now.
I took the long way home again. I lost myself but gained a friend.
And even though I've never changed, a part of me remains the same.
In my life there's lessons learned, broken hearts & bridges burned.
Though my pain may come in waves, I can resist the urge to hate.
So many lives that I've decayed, I have no friends, my price was paid.
Although I wasn't born a slave, I've never given up on faith.
It helps me know I'm not alone. This life is all I've ever known.
Brought up from an empty home. Walked through hell and danger zones.
Growing old is all a dream that falls apart right at the seams.
But beauty always hides behind the eyes that have lived tragic lives.
