Back when you were young

Back when you were young
.

Every generation looks upon their life
They tend to forget the bad by cutting it out with a knife
You remember Only the Good Times
The times when you laughed and played and sold lemonade for a dime
Back when you where young
To a time and place where you felt you could do no wrong
Good or bad you felt that you really belonged
Nowadays people don’t take the time to sit back and smell the roses anymore
They hop on the interstate to go here and there to visit every store
Try to do it all in one day and everything in between they just ignore
But when The Thunder roars and lightning strikes
You stranded because of the storm and you say yikes
If you just stayed by the house you could be home now nice and cozy and warm safe on this day
Instead you’re a hundred miles from home in Harm’s Way
Stuck inside a long ways from home you think about your life
You tend to forget the bad by cutting it out with a knife
You remember Only the Good Times
The times when you laughed and played and sold lemonade for a dime
Back when you where young
The old timers sit back tell their tales
Of times when you walk down the street at night
Meet somebody and say good night without running away in Fright
Time seemed simpler then you could run down to the creek and swim or just eat a Popsicle on the side of the street
Moms making apple pies you better get ready to eat
Times were easier and you were happy and not mad
You laughed and played until you heard someone say it's too dark to play it was your dad
Nowadays there’s no time they say
You have to hustle and bustle get from here to there all in one day
How you want to live your life is your decision to make
If life was easier in the good old days back when you were young
when everyday mom made chocolate cake
In the good old days they say is where you could do no wrong
Is your life you should live it the way you want be happy feel like you do belong
Your memories you will always cherish they makes you smile sing a song
About a time that made you laugh and sometimes makes you cry
You tell stories to your kids grandkids about a time that they don’t understand and ask why
You just smile and think back when you were young
