Battle Born.

If I had to put it into words.
Well I guess all I can say.
Is I never meant for any of this.
I never wanted it to be this way.

But it's too late now for apologies.
I'm too far gone to care.
The part of me that loved you most.
Has disappeared into thin air.

Look into my eyes, tell me what you see.
I promise you there isn't much left of me.
Listen to my heart, tell me what you hear.
I guarantee you it's not beating clear.

Given into the temptation.
To taste blood again.
Has left me feeling ruthless.
With a black tooth grin.

Feel the fingers clawing.
Down my pale, cold back.
My tattoos for this country.
That enthusiasm I seem to lack.

Slowly going through the motions.
Like a mindless zombie, dead.
I can tell that I am turning.
Or is this all just in my head?

It didn't always feel like this.
At one point I was wild and free.
But now, without the bloodshed.
There's nothing left here but misery.

Now I'm clawing at my skull.
My eyes, soulless and red.
I see I am becoming the thing.
That most everybody dreads.

Fighting it seems is all I know.
War is where I was born.
Some people say I've become crazed.
Others just call me War-torn.

But I know what I am now.
To me it's clear as day.
You think I am just haunted.
I say I was born this way.
