A reminder of the past
small faces and skinny fingers before they got fat
of girlhood snd giggles when my lips were too thick and before my hips came in.
Walks from houses down familiar streets,
to a shop of baked goods - a bakery
not to far and none too near
conversations I can't recollect today.
Someone bought them for me today,
those small coin sized biscuits,
reminders of the past,
a sweet round confection,
a crunch in my mouth, what sugar on my tongue.
I remember it now,
this plastic packet of goodness,
we'd open it then
we walked,
slowly, slower than before,
eating, crunching away,
not waiting for the tea that should go with them,
getting high on the sugar we were eating.
