Breathing Underwater

You see me happy
You see me smile
My health is scrappy
You couldn't tell from a mile
Away from me
They ask us when we're young
How do we see
With our eyes is the correct answer
They say
They ask us these so called
Critical questions
My mind is being mauled
By one thing they never keep in mind
The thing a percentage hides behind
They never say
Are you okay
They never think those full of joy
Couldn't possibly be sad
Although they're on the brink of death
They never think about it
They say
You're not depressed
You're not manic
You're not bipolar
You don't have chronic panic
They never think
Of how your thoughts think
They never link the jokes
To anything more than happiness
They never see you
I write this
Burning tears streaming
Down the scarred canvas
Of my face
I leave a space in between
To show you what this all means
Although you'll never understand
You'll never go through
The land that I have
The sand he's drowned in
The lack of oxygen she's choked in
You'll have your issues
You'll have your pain
It's all the same game
This issue is
As I see
Is not that we are let be
To be alone
With our thoughts
The issue here
As I see
Is that the majority
Is hearing us
You always hear us
You say those with mental instability
Are top priority
Yet still
You always hear us
What we say
What we do
The prices we pay
But have you ever thought
To stop
Stop hearing us
For what we say
For what we do
Because the truth
Is that we don't want to be heard
We want to be listened to
We are asked from a young age
How we see
Still the answer they say
With your eyes
But this answer
Does not satisfy
The lengths of my mind
It does quite terrify
Those underwater
Some beg for air
Others don't care
If we live
If we die
They'll never be satisfied
The dark never turns to light
The day turns to night
The ideas
The thoughts of fright
Amplify more than those of the day
I will not admit my weakness
I will not admit my vulnerability
I will not admit my capability
I will not tell you how I am
I will not speak my name
I will not take your hand
I will not be okay
Until I have the ability
To repay
Those who have hurt me
Because they have helped me more
Than any of you
Not to say
You should decay from my life
What I say is thise who have damaged me
Taught me pain
Taught me guilt
Taught me struggle
Taught me the reality of life
I regret wasting years in my time
And I shall go on
I won't make it through without a fight
I won't make it through without scars
I won't make it through "alright"
You'll have to see me struggle
And understand
There's nothing you could possibly do
Besides let me pave the path
In front of me
Alone
While I flee to the sea
To set my life free
Breathing underwater
This is not voluntary slaughter
More so the release of pain
In the most sane way
Where my heart strings
Will evaporate
Where my thoughts
Will turn to mist
My lips turn to metaphors
My finger tips cease to exist
And I, myself
Will not be missed
