BROKEN PROMISES

Mom said to me
"I won't leave till you're lived"
But while I was yet six
She was gone in a blink
Now I'm a double six
Dad promised to see me through
But to his words he wasn't true
as he was swallowed up in the
pool of his own debts.
Then I was a triple six,
To save and uphold my dignity
Was the promise I made to me,
But in the shadows of bright night
It was forcefully taken with might.
Now I'm four times six
Ready to face life and its supposed promises,
but looking down the road,
It was another broken promise,
To be added to a litany of broken promises.
