Buried deep
In the corner of my closet
Unable to raise my head
From the weight of the tears
Pressing me down.
My mind broken
By the betrayal
Of what little trust remained
Between us.
Hidden and ashamed
I crawl deeper
Into the darkness
Fearful that the door will open
And You will be standing there.
In this hole in which I hide
I question life
As the sobs deep within me
Shake me to my very core.
Oh my Brother
What had I done for you
To take my shame
And hold it up against your light
For all the world to see.
It would have been easier
If you had simply
Walked away
And left me to myself
With what little self-respect
(So little self-respect)
That I had left.
Instead, I hide myself
Deep within the darkness
Of my closet
Buried and hidden
Under the garments hanging there.
Hoping without hope
To never have to face you again
To suffer the shame
Of knowing that I will never be
As good as you.
My brother,
My friend.
