For the times I spent wallowing in bitterness because of the struggles I go through
Should I let it eat me up and make enmity towards the cause of these pain
Or rather stand up and find the roots of these pain and change the outcome.
Could I have been a better person if my colour was white ?
Prejudice amongst humans
People practising racism and deploring others to a worse state
Scorning me because my skin is dark
This very skin showing the hardship I went through
Dry lips , cracked skin malnourished body
Working in the dumps
Sleeping in ranshackled places
Dilapidated buildings have now become my generation inheritance
My fingers so thin yet nimble spinning threads upon threads just to make food on the table
I have been mistreated because I am black
Is it a sin that I was created to be that way ?
My skins at first was bright but now is unrecognizable
The light in my eyes so dim
Daily flickering
They show no remorse of excluding me in any human act
I am deemed their underdog
We are one people yet they see us to be different
My melanin skin doesn't wipe away even when rubbed with water
Nature doesn't change a fact that leaves would never be green when about to bloom
A fruit is always green before ripening
So does it never change a fact that I am black and courageous
They take away my kids and husbands to work far away leaving me alone at the threadmill
My children are now enjoyment machines they release their pent up desires upon
Day and day morning and night
I cry I think
That would the result have been the same if i was white?
What if a black became a leader and they were my subjects
Should they have passed through the same hardship
Could they have endured?
I am black I am strong willed
I am determined
I rise up from the ashes just like a Phoenix
Everyone hears my voice high and low
I am rebirthed
I am rebirthed
Energy and vigor courses through my bones
There's a fire , a flame running through my blood
Saying rise up rise up and turn things around
I will make a difference
That blacks are not to be trampled upon but rather we have what it takes to become a successful person
They try to cage me in their sullied thoughts but I do not take notice of it
Like a bird I wish to be set free
I rebel when I am caged but am happy when liberated
Up and down I move
Trying to find out the gateway to my dream
My success
I see the light at the end of the road
But is that really the end of the road for me
They make want to give up
But I persist , I thrive to survive so I decided to move on
I reach an inconspicuous road
To move or not to move?
I decide to move
Along the way it has not been smooth
My fellow humans give up
And some die some turn back to go back to the harships they face but I strive to move forward
I move though the roads is not smooth
Because I want my generation to be free and free
I go on this road knowing it's a journey I am heading to for change
Am not going back to the pain I left behind
My steps are slow like a snail but I have faith that there is a light at the end of the tunnel
I continue my journey moving forward little by little
Clearing traps that may be an obstacle to my future
Finally I get to the middle of the road
I see I still have a long way to go
I do not rest because I know what await my efforts at the end of this journey
I continue forward moving faster than first because I have my faith renewed
Through determination and perseverance
My journey finally ends
I see my efforts yield into productivity
My will not being I vain
All the struggles and pain I went through I finally have it all paid of
I am liberated
I am liberated
I am liberated
My freedom has been gained
I am free
