Canine Capitulation

A friend ask me whilst doing a job
If I'd be interested in having a dog
He kept her in a stable
With a horse for company
After her owner gave her up
Following expensive surgery
She was used for Breeding
Several litters had Lexi
As she'd never have more
So what value was she?
On the way to visit her
I told my wife
'We're only visiting
Not taking her for life'
In a local park
We did a trial walk
She was so well behaved
That my wife and I talked
About giving her a chance
And sharing our lives
You see both of us fell
For her big soft brown eyes
Upon returning to the farm
Out the car she won't get
So she'd adopted us
We just didn't know it yet
So home with us she came
And now that we're three
It's hard to imagine life
As it used to be
