The joys of being a careworker
Fumbling at a key safe in the cold and getting stressed
Inside there lives an old man
Just waiting to get dressed
This client always says to me
You're too early or too late
And many times I'd patiently
Wait patient at his gate
Then I would enter and make him ready for his bed
Smear one cream on his torso
And another on his legs
One day he looked up at me
And he sadly said
I'll miss u when you go away
As he looked me in the eye
And just that moment made my day
And almost made me cry
So a carers job is never done
We are always on the road But at times it can be so much fun
Despite our heavy load
When clients are in need of help
Thru winter spring or fall
It's when the joy of love is felt
That makes it best of all
Pushing a wheelchair down the street Slopping a commode all over your feet
Making beds shaving faces prompting meds and tying laces
All with just a smile
Who else could say they do this
And go the extra mile
The end
