I cast no shadow upon your door,
For that is not me in the moonlight knocking,
And no waves of light crash upon your shore,
For that is not me docking
For the creak of floorboards singing,
May just mean that I am leaving,
Or in the corners of your mind,
You might hear that stranger breathing
No crow upon that fencepost there,
No black bird song this morrow,
Just the ravenous raven frozen in mid-air,
Choking on his tune of sorrow
So take heed and beware my dear,
For that shadow you see's not mine,
For as you drift off to sleep I fear,
You've closed your eyes for the last time.
