Quietly I sit listening
To strains of classic
Christmas melodies
Crackling fire burning
On my HD TV
Reminiscing of days
That have long since past
Save in my memory,
A coathanger Christmas tree
Hung outside my window
Each day an ornament
I pick and slowly add
My neighbors know that
An unwanted one they
With my many blessings
Put on my simple tree,
Many adorn the tops
With an Angel or a star
A native Zia I'll handcraft
To adorn the top of mine
This will be my second
Christmas here on the
High desert plateau
Though not the first
That I spent on my own
So to a crackling fire
I listen to on my HD TV
Strains of classic melodies
Soothing my chemo beat soul
My Christmas lights blinking
My depression shrinking
Sets my mind a thinking
About helping to feed
A cold winter beat down
Home deprived one
What do I ask in return?
No requests, nope not one.
Well I really must add
Merry Christmas
Happy Kwanzaa
Peaceful Passover
No matter what your belief
May your heart be renewed
May you know a true peace.
