Christmas Wish
I wish I may, I wish I might,
I wish you were with us on Christmas night.
I wish we could open gifts on Christmas Day,
I wish those wishes were enough for you to stay.
Even though you're gone, I hope your spirit stays near,
To be with us through the holidays this year.
Our hearts were torn apart when you passed away,
Thirteen years ago on that sad December day.
But we will always remember the love you showed,
And the family left behind on this long, winding road.
We aren't like every other; we fell apart at the start,
But slowly we rebuilt, heart by aching heart.
Though we’ve grown older and live further apart,
We still hold that connection deep in our hearts.
Because Grandma was the glue that held us together;
She weathered the storm and the coldest of weather.
She fought and she fought, and she didn't give up,
Even when life overfilled her cup.
She never let us down; she’s still with us today,
The same Grandma we love in every way.
With the biggest heart and the brightest smile,
A woman irreplaceable, every day and every mile.
Grandma, I just wanted you to know,
You are the light in the dark when the lights are low.
When we were once lost and didn't know where to start,
You taught us to find strength deep in our hearts.
You taught us to let go of what we can't control,
And that time really does heal the wounds of the soul.
I want to take a moment just to say:
Thank you for being you, every single day.
Thank you for keeping this family whole,
With your steady hand and your beautiful soul.
And when you are missing him, know you’re not alone—
Thank you for never leaving us, and for always coming home.
