COLOR ME A WOMAN

She wants to fit in
But all they see is her skin
Make it brighter to be visible
Forget the dark tone
It's not trophy enough
Drop the tummy fat
It needs to be completely flat
Make her hips wider
Get her ass pumped
Lengthen her hair
Make it brazilian
Sharpen her nose
And break her jaw
Sharpen those nails
She needs claws
Turn her into a bitch
Throw some money
make her fetch
Minimise her clothes
And shake her assets
She needs to be ratchet....
Isn't that what the world wants?
No applause for the girl next door
The one with the dark skin
That mimics the earth
The one who is thin
But not model enough
The one who wears sneakers
And loves the warmth from onesies
The one with the belly fat
And the flat ass
One with a chest that's shrunk
No bother knowing her bra size
Because she is something you'd rather hide
You forget that what lies between her thighs
IS the Genesis of mankind
So why interfere with the scripture
By molding her into an object of desire
One that you want but do not need
A statue to show off but do not keep
Because once the wrinkles start to show
You move on to another
Because her looks no longer meet the standards
You say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Then color me a woman
So I will be able to explain to my daughter
Why she has to work 10times harder
Just so the world can accept her
Not as an angry black woman
But a beautiful woman of color
One with hair so profound
It doesn't obey the laws of gravity
And body to die for
That she doesnt have to ruin
in the name of becoming
