The greys of life surround my soul
And protect me from the pain because
When I open up I have to let the colours in.
The red of discipline and of pain.
The blue of memories lost but not forgotten.
The yellow of anger that never seems to go away.
The green of income never paid.
The purple of bruises and broken hearts.
The orange of lovers never saved.
Maybe for you it’s different and our colours
Are not the same because your colours
May be lovely instead of filled with pain.
Locked inside my little house because of
Quarantine I try to change my colours
In the hope that I’ll be happy once again.
I can only deal with changing one colour at a time
Because they hurt me in so many ways
My trying to change them makes me cry.
Maybe one day I’ll be like you and all of my
Colours will have changed so that one day I
Can leave my home in happiness not pain.
