Compassion of the Red Skin

We were once a people of grace, kindness and love.
Cherishing life from everything beneath and above.
We once could hear the wind whisper whispers of peace, or hear the wolf cry to many moons.
Or be able to watch the great bears tackle hives for honey, or hear the laughter from a family of coons.
Many moons pass, many cold winters too.
But by the guidance of the great spirit we made it through.
But as time goes past and our lives move on.
Eventually our lives that we knew and loved were taken and gone.
We allowed the white men to come in our camps and congergate.
and before we knew it it was all tolate.
the once great people were now under sickness and great pain.
All for gold and white man's greedy gain.
while the white man are drinking their beer in celebration, never thinking about our fears
We were made to walk the trail of tears.
This trail was steep, and everything but straight.
Lots of us fell ill and became the earth from walking state to state.
We were pushed, we were beaten.
we were forced to starve while the white man was eaten.
Then the white man's government finds a plan of preservation and lands us in a reservation.
All the hate that white man gave,
and all the good men and wemon we could not save.

I still love the white men and forgive them I have. and forget we must.
for I do not count on the white man, it is the great spirit of whom I put my trust.
So white man I say to you.
That I love you reguardless of what you say or do.
Your heart may be cold and your blood may be thin.
But I forgive you friend, this is the compassion of a red skin.
