Cost

An old man sits with son sitting across,
And is asked was it worth it, the cost,
Every birthday missed but gain of marksmen aim,
Absent cheer in the crowd for award or game,
For every medal gained,
See every wonder in travel and every horror in world,
To be praised in public as a mother scorns in private,
To be more of a father to a private,
To stand before many as a leader and gaint,
But to always feel small in sun shining grace,
Being brave in a place populated more of cowards, than others that share story of your brave,
For pay a crooked politician, medicine price raising CEO, dirty cop, and drug dealer make in seconds of a day,
To which he will answer , No, it wasn't worth the loss, the bitter pill swallowed daily, but with you my guiding light,
Darkness is to be expected in hell, and this place is that , that question is the has been asked in nightmare & answered in my mind through everyday of service, every day then after,
To which I would be honest I loved doing my best for country, and indeed blind to business of youth for a war machine, I regret I didn't have two lives one with them and other with you,
But you know they didn't care a day after I took off the armor, they just got a new knight,
But I care not about my life or others, it's was just fighting to be at this judgement, and to rectify absent I had in the only life that matters,
I had friends that back in the day did it to be citizens,
But then left to return to native home in the end,
So end of the day, the cost, to make son whole, Is something I gladly pay, because I did everything for you and if I could not have done it for your future, I would have not given them a second of my life,
Like most of the citizen of this country every single day.
And the greatest medal of my duty, the greatest deed of my life, is the man that I call mine
