Speeding down county highway 23
The urge to swerve off the road increases
The trees look so comforting
The numbness would dissipate
The pain would disappear
This time I'd be leaving people
Maybe they'd learn how it feels
To be abandoned
To be left mentally
On the side of the road
In the middle of
Nowhere and everywhere
How I imagine it is
Everything would go blank
Peaceful, painless
Almost comforting
But I slow down
And keep driving,
Down county highway 23
