Twas in the later part of May
A growth in me they found
It was eating me slowly
When told it made my heart pound,
I was told that I had cancer
Growing in my colon
I tried to have courage
Still fear slowly crept in,
Now I'm not all that young
Three score and seven I be
With radiation and chemo
A might longer this world I'll see,
I do not fear death
For us all death will come
In my mind's eye I saw old age
Old age and many a day of sun,
They say treatment could be harsh
Three and a half day's drained
Followed by three and half good
Then the cycle starts over again,
Like the cowardly lion
I'll huff and puff with false bravado
Hiding my fear from the masses
To a few my letting my fear show,
Five years is not all that long
I'll be three score ten and two
Once this battle is over
I'll look at life with a sweeter view.
Tell me wouldn't you, too?
