Dancing in High Heels

I remember when my oldest son
Was little and liked to play
How I would often look at him
And wonder if he was gay.
Cuz he liked to wear his sisters dresses
And I really didn't care
But I knew he probably shouldn't
Wear his sisters underwear.
He danced around the living room
In his mother's high heel shoes
He would prance and dance and sing out loud
Well I considered all the clues.
And then one day he came to me
Shaking and in tears
To tell me that he was gay
So I told him I'd known for years.
I held him close to my heart
And told him that it was okay
That there was nothing wrong with him
Regardless of what others might say.
Now that my son is older
He no longer wears his sister's things
Instead he wears his very own
While he dances prances and sings.
Well now my son has moved out
With a partner he cares for
When I see them together I realize
That I couldn't ask for more.
