Depression

Depression
The sickness
Of sadness
But yet so much more than this
Friends with anxiety
The monsters that invade our brain
The only thing we thought was safe
Depression
It isnt just a bad day
Its sadness coursing in currents through your veins
Its a cage
That cant be escaped
Its looking in a mirror
Only to realize the smile looking back
Is a mere mask
To hide your brokeneness
Its a pain that no matter what you do
Or how much you want it to be
Is never mistaked
Because if you feel this way
Its symptoms arent simple
Nor over in a day
Its feeling like you just want to run away
Not from where you lie awake
Because with this mental cage
Also comes restraints
That make nights something you must learn to bear
And getting up in the morning a nightmare
But from your mind
Which never dissapears
Depression is a jail
And the anxiety becomes your only cell mate
Which manipulates you into staying inside
Even if the door is open wide
The cure may even be close
But always too far to claim
Always watching the cell door shut
And hearing the anxiety begin to tease
Saying youre stuck here for eternity
That every chance you get youll choose not to leave
And that youre so alone out there
That without us youll have nothing
Only a few lies they convince you to believe
Depression
An asylum for the anxiety
Which harbors the monsters
Known as negative thoughts
That fill you with fear
Of everything
Isolating you from everyone else
When the only true dangers are within yourself
