Dropout Road
You stand at the traffic light
Hope bright in your red road map eyes
Skin tanned to leather brown
A black and white piano note smile.
Clothes tell the story of pain without soap
Why do I judge you?
Maybe because of the spirits smell
on your breath
Not knowing of the warmth it brings
in winter cold.
You sit and judge in your brand new car
with a full belly after midday meal.
Life passes you by.
Do you know the cold that numbs the brain
or hungers gnawing pain?
Judge not what you don’t know
of life’s dropouts road
bleak and twisting, with nowhere to go.
