Drowning In The River

I left you there
Along those muddy banks
Without saying goodbye
I let go of your hand
Lying there
Drowning in the river
Twas an easier fate
Than what you would've had if I stayed
For what death is more comfortable
Than on a bed of sand, splayed
Lying there
Drowning in the river
The water's cool
Your mother told me
The water's clear
Though I couldn't bring myself to see
You Lying there
Drowning in the river
Is it peaceful there?
Can you still hear the voices of those who scorn you?
Is it tranquil there?
Can you still laugh and smile like you used to
Lying there
Drowning in the river
I'd like to join you
I'd like to lay down beside you
The water would be heavy, I think
Weighing on our bodies, cold and blue
Lying there
Drowning in the river
My tears would blend
In the water, useless
Invisible to anyone but me
Completly meaningless
Lying here
Drowning in the river
