First time I saw you, your smile a warm embrace,
Eyes ablaze like skies of deepest azure space.
Before that hour, my world was cold and still,
A lonely grave where tenderness lay ill;
I’d long forgot how gentle hearts could beat,
My gaze dimmed down, with shadows at my feet—
Yet in your face, I saw the sun’s own gleam,
A soft glance I’d been searching for, it seems.
Stanza 2
Now rivers stretch between us, wide and far,
Like snow that falls before my eyes like starlight’s scar.
I wish I’d speak the word that burns inside—it’s love,
But pride and fear like tides push from above.
So I’ll let go the token I’d have shown,
Let it fall deep in sand dunes all alone,
Where secrets rest beneath the golden shore,
