When you think of Dunkin Donuts, you would think of donuts. The two companies were not always competitive brands. According to “Dunkin’ Donuts And Starbucks: A Tale Of Two Coffee Marketing Giants” article, Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks existed side by side for years when Dunkin was all about making donuts. In popular culture, hearing the name Dunkin Donuts is hearing the famous name Fred the Baker. Fred quoted in the 80s, “time to make the donuts” for an advertisement campaign. In Fred's message for Dunkin is to decide not to make beverages. The company has altered its plans of Dunkin being a coffee shop first, and advertising donuts and other food items to increase their beverage products.
In the 90s, Starbucks’ influence was widespread. There were stores that used to get their customers in and out quickly. There were a lot of book stores that had Starbucks addresses in them, and "they adopted the model." Some Dunkin Donut owners have mocked Starbucks culture. For example, having the idea of a hangout spot of sitting and staying a while, and having free WiFi usage, and also letting customers pay for bathroom key usage. The good difference with Dunkin is that generally, Dunkin does give good coffee and delicious donuts. Dunkin does provide products and it is inexpensive.
