They promised me eternal life
before I first met you.
A heavenly life of unending love
like I’d never felt before.
All that I had to do for this eternal love
was to follow certain rules.
Rules that did not include
loving a woman just like you.
And then we met that summer day
beneath that clear blue sky.
We laughed and talked and sometimes cried
as our love began to show.
But then they said that I would lose
Eternal life if I chose to stay with you.
What they don’t know is that your sweet love
Is more alive to me than any god could ever be.
For in your arms and in your heart
you’ve loved me in ways that god could never do.
And so it would be better for me
to die for your love than not to die at all.
For the promise of Eternal Life
will never mean more to me than you.
