Farthest shores

Cold grip, the unsung barge has come to me
in times when I remained a bitter oil
and sorrow placed inside my heart a key,
a barren nature full of grit and toil
which left me wallow in the deepest dusk
til only in my mind remained a cloud
of dust, unproven shackles, scented musk
which softened into disremembered shroud
and followed me into the rain and shine
until before me leapt only the stars,
and all I saw, in triumph, death was mine,
it scooped me up and shielded all my scars,
No longer burning, mind is not at ease,
while farthest shores lay cold amid the seas.
