I remember at the age of six Pops walking out the door
My heart hit the floor I won’t see him anymore
He left the family for the liquor
His addictions made him sicker
Looking at my mom’s cry, dying inside
I felt empty handed, abandon and alone
A place I called safe was no longer a home
I sat down starring at family pictures, taking in expressions of my brother and sister
The pain is so raw, the pain so deep, the anger in my heart won’t let me sleep
I fall to my knees crying out to the Lord
Why does my father not want me no more?
What did I do?, what are the reasons, why could I not stop him from leaving?
He was my rock, my role model, the breath in my chest
When he walked out the door, it was like mourning his death
I ran to my mother’s arm, my place of rest
Now I am the man of the house I will do my best Fatherless
