He looked at his watch.
It read 10:14 in the morning, however he knew it was 3 minutes fast, so it was actually closer to 10:17. The rain had been coming down for almost 4 hours now with no sign of stopping, or even an intention of slowing.
For a while everything was okay.
Colours resumed their subtle dance while autumns earthy scent carried on the raindrops as they crash into everything they see, and disperse accordingly.
The sky, as ever, reassuringly distant and darkened, heavy with its loomingly thunderous encore.
The undertones of a small town living and breathing, seemingly as one.
But there was something off. He couldn't quite see it yet he felt it, and as he did the skin tightened down his back and every nerve in his body trembled with a frightened curiosity.
What was it he couldn't see?
Had he felt this before now?
Yes, it happened too, yesterday! The exact same feeling. So what was it.
He pondered the question for hours after, staring into a sky littered with droplets of cool water, as if some how one of them knew the answer he sought.
He didn't see night falling around him, silencing this little town as the people of it retired once more for another day. Their lives unchanging.
Unassuming.
But as the last candle extinguished from this town, and the blackness of night permeated every last crevise that was kept hidden by it, he suddenly realised what terrified him.....
