I'm standing outside having a smoke

The sun is out shining quite brightly

I should have brought out a toke

Writing this high would start nicely

I can hear a squirrel over in the backyard

Chewing on something that he's found

Bread perhaps that someone did discard

He's enjoying it from the pleasant sound

There might be two of them or even three

Happy crunching noises heard very clearly

They have had a rough winter I guarantee

Below minus ten Celsius is cold extremely

Plenty of snow has fallen this winter now

Not as much here as there was elsewhere

Seemed like everyday out came the ploughs

For some this season has become a nightmare

It's almost a week into February , and I wonder?

How many stuck with their new years resolution?

How many have found it to be harder or tougher

Than they thought , and figured it was a delusion?

In just over a week it will be the one day of love

Where couples wait all year to show their spouse

Both of you reminisce about how you felt like doves

And on that special day you tied the knot with vows

On Valentine's Day you subtly let your crush aware

That yes indeed you think they are number one of all

You invite that special person for a drink , in the chairs

Until you gain the courage to inform them, they enthral

In around two months spring will arrive to warm things

Grass will slowly grow and plants shoot up to new life

Leaves on the trees start growing , birds begin to sing

It's what many wait for all winter , for spring to arrive

Some folks enjoy winter as I do , others find it dismal

Some like the winter activities that winter has to offer

But then a few people hibernate , they think it's abysmal

But either way let's be optimistic , soon it will be warmer
